🇪🇸 Para orgullo de todos los Españoles, éstas fueron las palabras de Don Blas de Lezo dirigidas a sus soldados antes del ataque de Vernon al Fuerte de Bocachica en Cartagena de Indias , Marzo 1741:
“– Soldados de España peninsular y soldados de España americana. Habéis visto la ferocidad y poder del enemigo; en esta hora amarga del Imperio nos aprestamos para dar la batalla definitiva por Cartagena de Indias y asegurar que el enemigo no pase.
Las llaves de Imperio han sido confiadas a nosotros por el Rey, habremos de devolverlas sin que las puertas de esta noble ciudad hayan sido violadas por el malvado hereje. El destino del Imperio esta en vuestras manos. Yo, por mi parte, me dispongo a entregarlo todo por la Patria cuyo destino esta en juego; entregare mi vida, si es necesario, para asegurarme que los enemigos de España no habrán de hollar su suelo, de que la Santa Religión a nosotros confiada por el destino no habrá de sufrir menoscabo mientras me quede un aliento de vida. Yo espero y exijo, y estoy seguro que obtendré, el mismo comportamiento de vuestra parte. No podemos ser inferiores a nuestros antepasados, quienes también dieron la vida por la Religión, por España y por el Rey, ni someternos al escarnio de las generaciones futuras que verían en nosotros los traidores de todo cuanto es noble y sagrado. ¡Morid, entonces para vivir con honra! ¡Vivid, entonces, para morir honrados! ¡Viva España! ¡Viva el Rey! ¡Viva Cristo Jesús!- “.

“– Soldiers from peninsular Spain and soldiers from American Spain. You have seen the ferocity and power of the enemy; In this bitter hour of the Empire we prepare to give the definitive battle for Cartagena de Indias and ensure that the enemy does not pass.
