Para luchar contra la Leyenda Negra que tanto persigue la historia de España, existe un arma muy útil, y es el estudio de los hechos acaecidos, y su posterior análisis para llegar a una reflexión lógica, dentro de los parámetros en los que se vivía en la sociedad de los siglos XV al XVII.Para llevar a cabo dicha tarea científica e investigadora, nada mejor que dejar hablar a los estudiosos de esta materia, para que nos puedan dar un poco de luz ante tanta oscuridad proporcionada por la propaganda antiespañola, y los enemigos históricos del Imperio Español y la Monarquía Hispánica.
Uno de los puntos fuertes de esta Leyenda Negra, es el trato que los españoles le dieron a los indígenas. Ante esto, el historiador sueco Carl Grimberg (1875-1941) escribiría:
“Con todos los defectos, y no hay empresa humana que no los tenga, la conquista de América por los españoles constituye una de las epopeyas más gigantescas de la Historia universal. Durante la vida de tres generaciones sucesivas, los españoles descubrieron, exploraron, conquistaron y colonizaron el imperio más grande que el mundo ha visto jamás, ejecutaron prodigios de valor y de resistencia y crearon una sociedad civilizada en medio de un desierto virgen.” “Todo historiador imparcial reconocerá que el comportamiento de los españoles hacia los indígenas no tiene punto de comparación con la destrucción sistemática de éstos, hasta su total extinción en América del Norte, obra de otras colonizaciones.”
